Exactly As You Are

Radical self-acceptance is simply accepting yourself exactly as you are. It means releasing shame, high expectations, self-doubt, and feelings of unworthiness. It doesn’t mean giving up, it means feeling good enough. Join me this week for ways to nourish the body with physical practices, breathing techniques, and find out more about what radical acceptance means. In the meantime, check out some ways to practice radical self-acceptance below and be sure to sign up for your free consultation to learn more about how you can benefit from this practice.

What are some ways to practice radical self-acceptance?

  1. Understand acceptance doesn’t mean giving up. Keep striving for those improvements but understand that any changes you make are to improve upon what is already good.

  2. Notice your thoughts. When self-doubt or criticism creeps in, observe the thoughts without judgement. Trying to suppress them might keep you spinning in the same cycle.

  3. Give your mind permission to be curious. If you have a hard time quieting your thoughts, give your conscious mind a few tasks first. Allow your logical mind to think about what caused the self-doubt to creep in. Were you comparing yourself to someone else? Did someone say something to you or did a memory arise triggering thoughts of self-consciousness?

  4. Observe your breath. If you notice yourself being critical, simply witness your breath. Is it short and shallow? How long is your inhalation and your exhalation? Subscribe to my newsletter for upcoming live breathwork sessions, or better yet, reach out for a personalized practice.

  5. Keep a gratitude or positivity journal. Write down things that you are grateful for (it doesn’t have to be about yourself) and qualities in yourself that you appreciate or things you do well. Struggling finding positivity? Let’s set up a session and I can guarantee that we’ll find plenty of positive things about you!

  6. Get physical. Participate in mindful movement like going for a walk, stretching, or other forms of self-care for your body. If you aren't sure where to start, let's work together to find a physical practice that suits you.

  7. Listen to meditations, talks, or affirmations. I recommend downloading an established meditation app, such as Insight Timer, to find meditations led by and approved by professionals in the field. Otherwise, you can just type in “meditation” and words like self-esteem, self-acceptance, self-love, etc. in a web search and you will find hundreds of videos, lectures, meditations, and more.

  8. Get communal support. Ask a friend to join you in sharing positive thoughts about one another. Seek out meditation groups or communities like my transformation journey to find people like yourself seeking support in honoring your journey into wellness.

I look forward to hearing how your journey with radical self-acceptance blossoms!
